PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project takes us deep into the mountains, where we are currently breathing new life into an ancient Alpine baita. The goal is a delicate balancing act: creating a residence designed for year-round living that respects its centuries-old roots while meeting the rigorous eco-sustainability standards of modern mountain living.

Honoring the Foundation

The soul of this home lies in its original historic basement. Rather than starting from scratch, we chose to preserve this stone foundation—the very “birthplace” of the building. This rugged, historical base serves as the anchor for the entire project, ensuring that the home remains deeply connected to its mountain heritage and the traditional vernacular of the region.

To transform this into a comfortable, permanent residence, we had to solve the unique challenges of high-altitude energy efficiency. Mountain municipalities have strict regulations regarding energy conservation, which traditional masonry often struggles to meet.

Our solution was a sophisticated prefabricated upper structure. This high-performance “shell” was engineered to:

  • Exceed Energy Standards: Providing state-of-the-art insulation and thermal performance that traditional stone cannot achieve alone.

  • Preserve Historic Charm: While the technology is cutting-edge, the aesthetic remains purely Alpine, utilizing materials and finishes that harmonize with the original base.

  • Sustainable Longevity: Built for the future, the home is designed to be fully eco-conscious, reducing its carbon footprint without sacrificing comfort.

This is a work in progress, with our team of specialists working meticulously to merge these two distinct eras of construction. We are on track to put the finishing touches on this mountain retreat by the end of this summer, ultimately delivering a home that is as efficient as it is timeless.
